What Is Asteroid Belt?
The 'asteroid belt' is a torus-shaped region in our Solar System which is located between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars, that is occupied by a great many solid, irregularly shaped bodies, of many sizes but much smaller than planets, called 'asteroids' or 'minor planets'.
FACTS ABOUT ASTEROID BELT
#1 The Asteroid Belt contains billions of asteroids.
#2 The asteroid named 'Ceres' is also designated as a dwarf planet, the largest one in the inner solar system.
#3 We know only about at least 7000 asteroids.
#4 The largest asteroids in the belt are Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea.
#5 Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea contains half of mass of entire Asteroid Belt.
#6 The thickness of asteroid belt is about '1 AU'.
